Rev. Patty began her career in Chaplaincy in 1996 at Good Shepherd Hospital. She completed 2 Units of CPE (Chaplain Pastoral Education) at this Hospital. One unit consists of 450 hours of class room education, individual mentoring and spiritual development and practicum. She was under the supervision of Rev. Finley Brown. She also continued to stay on staff as a Chaplain for two years.
In September of 2000, Rev. Patty started with Rush Hospice Partners as Chaplain. Her pastoral ministry here was to the sick, the dying and the ones living on. She worked with people on an individual basis processing their fears about dying and aiding them in finding some answers to their questions. She also conducted bereavement groups for the families after.
Rev. Patty began her third Unit of CPE at Lake Forest Hospital with Rev. Edith Finnsindal as the Chaplain Supervisor. After 8 months of intense self evaluation, education and practicum, this unit was completed. To date, Patty has completed 1,350 hours of CPE.
CPE is some of the most self revealing education and processes one can go through. According to Patty, Chaplaincy work is the most sacred work that can be done. Chaplaincy work is about creating a safe place for individuals to express and process their most intimate feelings and thoughts without judgment or criticism. It is not about fixing them, or care taking them but about BEING A PRESENCE OF FAITH, OF HOPE, AND OF GOD. Chaplaincy work is about being a conduit for God, for God to flow through, to comfort and to heal. |
